How to Develop Checklists

This mini-workshop answers when and why to use checklists compared to rubrics.  Your tool will help you and your subject matter experts develop checklists that capture the key behaviors expected of someone who can do a task to standard.  You will see examples of well-designed and poorly designed checklists.

Objectives:  Given a request to create checklists to judge people's proficiency in a task, you will:

  • Identify and list each step of the task
  • Decide if and where sequence matters
  • Include the criteria to judge how well each step was done
  • Comply with the guidelines for creating checklists

Length: 45 minutes

Materials:  Guidelines with rules for creating checklists
